U5 submission: Portfolio of Experimentation

This is my second submission for unit 5, which represents a portfolio of experimentation. I decided to focus my experiments on pushing forward my writing practice – an area of my practice that I’ve not given much space on MAIP so far.

I started with a very wide brief, but over the course of the unit, came to understand my experimentation as gravitating around three central pillars: a cognitive dissonance with fiction and its value, issues around cultural appropriation, and the challenges facing my practice as I adapt to living abroad (and operating in a second language).

By the end, I came to see these as paradoxes to manage rather than problems to solve. The most valuable outcome has been developing methods for integrating practice and experimentation into my daily life.
